BEEKEEPING CLASSES

Gregg will be holding his information-packed beekeeping classes again this year. The cost is $75.00. Each class runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 1-hour break for lunch. Please bring paper and pen to take notes. Classes are held next-door to our store, and weather permitting, afternoon classes will be also held at several hive locations. Come on down to the Farmette for a presentation on backyard beekeeping. Our instructor, Ben Rodman is a Lyons resident with his wife Jasmine Lok.  He has been a beekeeper since 2004 and has been performing feral colony rescue and removal for several years, is a moderator of the online beekeeping forum Beesource.com, and is an award-winning meadmaker and home brewer.  We’ll discuss where to keep bees, equipment options, “natural” beekeeping, how to inspect your colony, the honeybee life cycle, and of course honey and other colony products.  And new this year: we’ll visit the Farmette’s beautiful new observation colony  where we can watch “the girls” doing their thing under glass right in front of us! We will have equipment, books and protective gear to examine, and participants can get together on orders for bee equipment and packages of honeybees for Spring!

This free bee keeping seminar is from 1 PM till 3 PM at Jared’s Gift and Garden Center 10500 West Bowles Littleton, CO 80127. Learn about the fascinating world of the Honeybee with master beekeeper Greg McMann and Tom Bush. Most participants come to the Beekeeping Class with an interest bees, their place in our world, and to learn just what is involved in beekeeping. Some are completely new to the hobby while others have been or are current beekeepers wishing to refine and update their knowledge.

The program’s mission is to develop knowledgeable beekeeping ambassadors to help educate and inform the larger community. The welfare of bees and beekeeping is of utmost importance, now more than ever, so the program aims to improve awareness of beekeeping issues in Boulder County, Colorado and beyond.
