I'm a new to beekeeping in my Denver backyard.  My husband built a golden mean, cedar top bar hive & we installed our package in late Apr '11.  They've filled the hive with comb, honey & babies and are now hunkered down for the winter.  We anticipate doing our 1st honey harvet in the spring.

I researched this project (classes, clubs, books & word of mouth) for a year before I took the plunge.  Once I found out about top bar hives...there was no looking back!  Can't tell you how pleased I've been with my new found hobby!  Two friends are seriously considering doing the same.  My bees couldn't be happier & healthier!  My yard (flowers & veggies) flourished with the increased bee visitations!  Organic and natural is my new mission...TRINA

Welcome to the CSBA forum. We're just getting started with our new forum. Thank You for posting. Would love to see photos of the hive you built. Please share.  Don't be to anxious to harvest honey in the spring, they may need it if you have any left by then from them over wintering. My hives are usually pretty bare in the spring until the honey flow gets going strong. Most of us harvest in the fall. But having a top bar may put you on a different harvest pattern.
