Don't know anything about the Carolinian bees. and buying hives of craigs list. you talking just hardware or bees too?  i'd have to leave that up to your discretion providing that you do a thorough inspection of them. but i'd always be leary about buying used hardware becuase of disease or chemicals they may have used on their hives. just my opinion.

Welcome Joshua, glad you have joined us. The forum is just getting started and many of our members haven't made it here yet. But please keep checking back as we get more activity on this forum the information and responses will be helpful.

Welcome to the CSBA forum. We're just getting started with our new forum. Thank You for posting. Would love to see photos of the hive you built. Please share.  Don't be to anxious to harvest honey in the spring, they may need it if you have any left by then from them over wintering. My hives are usually pretty bare in the spring until the honey flow gets going strong. Most of us harvest in the fall. But having a top bar may put you on a different harvest pattern.
