Brighton Bee Club President, Dave Swanson, has plans to get us all out and about this summer, with weekend club meetings in field, saving the enclosed classroom setting for winter months.
This month, Mr. Studinski will meet with us at our hives on Saturday, May 24. He states: “I would allow 1 hour to 90 minutes per hive. I generally expect a lot of questions in this role. I have blocked off the whole day for you all. Starting at 9AM or later is fine. How many hives is up to you. The timing suggests we check for queen health. I had not planned on checking for mites. I think of that as a July or August activity.”
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts while receiving a preparatory discourse from Don, then dive into a couple hives, enjoy lunch before moving on to other hives, and wrap up by 5:00 p.m., that would afford maybe 3 stops for the day (more if the hives we look at are in perfect order). Please let me and Dave know who would like to have their hive(s) checked that day. One of the stops we wish to make is Berry Patch Farms, to cover a couple hives. But, we’ll need to know where else we wish to visit, so we can get an efficient route mapped for the day.
