The meeting for this month will CHANGE (one month only). We are meeting on THURSDAY, August 14, 2014. We will meet, as usual, at To Bee Or Not To Bee at 7:00 PM.
1. Tim Brod has agreed to discuss re-queening hives – something many of have had to do this year. He will also discuss honey extraction and qualities. I know some of you are wanting to enter into the various contests at fairs and festivals. Don’t forget the Honey Jubilee next month (more on that later).
2. For those members who want to bring a sticky board for Varroa mite inspection: Please, coat your sticky board with a substance the mites will stick to (Kristina mentioned Crisco at the last meeting, others have mentioned vegetable oil – sprays may be too thin) and leave it in your bottom board for 48 hours. This way we will all be the same. We will bring out the magnifying glasses so everyone attending can tell what they are looking at. Bring your glasses as well. We will also discuss ways to treat before winter sets in.
3. Plan ahead, I am being told to be ready to remove all supers the third week of August so that the hives can build up for winter.
Next month, Beth Conrey from CSBA will speak and we will talk extracting honey, and winter issues.
