Brighton Beekeepers Monthly Meeting @ Brighton Agfinity Store
Jan 8 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
The Brighton Bee Club Meeting on January 8, 2014, will again be held at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at Agfinity.  The featured speaker will be David Izaguirre, of Greeley.  David has a large apiary in Greeley, managing just under 100 hives.  His last presentation to us pertained to the insulating and winter feeding of the colonies for winter.  This month he’ll address spring buildup, feeding, splits, and other timely information for March and April.
In addition to preparing those of us who already have hives carrying over the winter, Mr. Izaguirre will offer a beginning beekeeping class on Saturday, February 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Agfinity’s upstairs room.  The fee is $20.00 per student, and a Subway lunch will be provided.  Even those of us who are old hands at beekeeping could probably use a refresher and pick up a couple new ideas.
January is the month to collect member’s dues.  Please have $20 cash or check available for David Brenton to collect.  The $20 dues covers each family, not each person, for the year – what a bargain!  Once collected, the club can forward to the CSBA its share of the dues, for membership with the state club.  Don’t hesitate!  Good things come in small packages, and this small membership fee certainly provides good things.
As her final offering to the club, former Treasurer Diana Heyneker presented the 2013 accounts, indicating a deposit of $860 from sale of honey this last fall.  With that input, the club’s ending balance was $1,085.00, with which the club can expand its apiary and purchase equipment to assist club members with beekeeping chores.  Some monies will go toward enticing excellent speakers and advertising efforts.  In retrospect, Brighton Bee Club is becoming a beneficial and recognized community entity.  Congratulations on giving the pollinators a well-deserved boost last year!
Keep up the momentum – we’ll see each other Wednesday night!

Brighton Beekeepers Monthly Meeting
Apr 9 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Our Wednesday night club meeting on April 9 at 6:30 p.m. will feature the return of Miles McGaughey from Boulder. He will cover package bees installation, has some slides to share, and lots of answers to our questions.

This will be a fantastic talk, covering everything we need in anticipation of the arrival of the package bees on April 26.

PLEASE, if you are to receive bees and want ANY information or help with installing them, ATTEND. Let me know whom to anticipate attending. Dave Swanson anticipates a lot of new beekeepers, and a lot of experienced beekeepers to attend, since Miles has years of knowledge to share. We want to make sure we have room for everyone.

ATTENTION DAVE SWANSON!!! I’ve received many requests for a meeting time this Saturday at Sue’s, for hive inspection and splitting. What time should we meet? Because we’re disrupting the happy lives of the hive we wish to split, everyone attending should wear their bee suits and veils.

Spring has begun, let’s celebrate it together by giving bees a warm, knowledgeable welcome!
