NCBA Swarm Hotline Sign-up/Recap of 2012 by Beth Conrey
April Meeting – Thursday, April 18 6:30 – 8:30 PM – Michele Pelanne will speak briefly about Driftwatch, the state-sponsored hive mapping program for Aerial Applicator Awareness. Our main program will be “Planting for Pollinators” – a presentation on bee-friendly flowering plants, with Master Gardener Charleen Barr and Ronda Koski; Bring your empty bee package boxes – we will be collecting them before the meeting.
We will start the meeting with an open discussion of, followed by voting on, the proposed updates to the NCBA Constitution and Bylaws that have been tabled since our October business meeting. These updates are intended to clarify the mission of the NCBA as well as the roles of the Executive Committee and its members; provide members more flexibility in matters brought to Membership for a vote; and address ways to handle changing circumstances that call for a response.
We believe strongly that these updates need to be approved, and will help protect the interests of Membership and promote the highly effective Association that you, our members, deserve.
Below you’ll find links to a more detailed summary of the changes and to the revised Constitution and Bylaws themselves.
The next topic is Spring Beekeeping Activities – with a discussion and open Question and Answer session. We know this is a busy Beekeeping time of year, and want to help you be successful.
The program for the meeting on Thursday July 18th 6:30-8:30 PM at the Pulliam Building in Loveland is still a bit up in the air. If his schedule permits, Tim Brod will be making a presentation on queens. Our backup plan is to host a presentation of the film “More Than Honey”. Either way, it promises to be a special evening, and we look forward to seeing you all there!
Our August meeting will feature Tim Brod speaking on queens. The owner of Highland Honey Bees LLC, he is a Boulder-area beekeeper who has long been raising queens. This promises to be an informative and entertaining presentation. We will also have a brief extractor demonstration at the end of the meeting for those new to the process. Thursday August 15, 2013 6:30-8:30 P.M Venue: Johnstown Community Center, 101 Charlotte Street, Johnstown, CO 80534
